Type 1 Diabetes Research at Oxford
Over the past 50 years, pioneering research into T1D at the University of Oxford has discovered the mechanisms that govern insulin release from the pancreas, established the international guidelines for diabetes treatment, identified the genes that drive T1D risk, and pioneered clinical islet transplantation for insulin production.
T1D research at the University of Oxford spans a number of leading departments, from fundamental discovery research through to translational studies and clinical trials. This diverse network includes not just clinical researchers but also engineers, computational scientists and others, all working together to advance new cures for T1D.
Our centre catalyses cross-disciplinary strengths to form a critical mass that is much more than the sum of its parts, making a cure for T1D a realistic ambition.
