We have ambitious aims, and a collaborative approach to give ourselves the best chance of reaching them.

Our Aims

We will develop our aims together with patients and their families who have lived experience, ensuring the utmost relevance of research for the T1D community. Together, we will focus on three integrated themes with the bold overarching ambition of curing T1D either through beta cell replacement or lifelong delay:

  • We will identify individuals at risk of developing T1D, allowing selection for cutting-edge immunotherapy trials to delay T1D progression.
  • We will protect our patients by developing immune strategies that can prevent T1D from developing in the first place.
  • We will ensure that patients can live well by producing more effective cell therapies.

Our approach

  • Accelerate high risk/high reward cross-disciplinary projects to catalyse new collaborations between researchers from outside traditional T1D fields, maximising research impact through scientifically disruptive advances.
  • Provide training and support for early and mid career research fellows and DPhil students, equipping and empowering the next generation of leading T1D scientists, leading to a ripple effect across the field and ensuring continued success.
  • Tap into Oxford's prowess in innovation, intellectual property protection and commercialisation, ensuring that early phase research studies progress seamlessly and rapidly to clinical development.
